Hello, my name is Alec Topkis. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) here at Specialty. After years of providing compassionate care as a counselor in the luscious green landscape of Oregon, I have recently moved to the stunning snowy mountains of Colorado.
In Oregon I attended the University of Oregon for my undergraduate degree in Educational Foundations and Lewis and Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling for my graduate degree in Professional Mental Health Counseling and Addictions. This program focused on social justice, supporting me in learning how to try to meet the needs of anyone who is seeking support.
I have almost a decade of experience working with youth, families, folks struggling with addiction, and running groups in settings ranging from inpatient residential programs to high schools to general outpatient facilities. I enjoy working with people of all ages and abilities, especially those who are looking for support with neurodivergence, anxiety, and/or addiction.
I practice with eclectic modalities, believing that every client I work with has their own unique process for therapy and is the expert in their life. I generally tend to pull from evidence-based practices such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), attachment theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and trauma informed care techniques like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
In my free time I enjoy being able to connect with my community in nature. I try to stay active depending on the season by hiking, biking, swimming, skiing, paddle boarding, and kayaking. When I’m at home, I love spending quality time with my partner, two dogs, cat, and bunny.
I am excited to get to know you, be part of your team, and support you in achieving your goals.
