I’m Matthew, a current Social Work graduate student with an impassioned interest in psychotherapy and mental health. I believe the way that we speak to ourselves, the unique emotions we feel, and the behaviors we engage in are interdependent. It is my intent to help you connect those thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with a more meaningful life. I will work with you on your terms, letting you lead the conversation and collaborating when appropriate through a discussion of values, making peace with painful experiences, and present-moment awareness.
In terms of techniques, I primarily utilize humanistic approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy. My practice is also influenced by the philosophy of Gestalt Therapy, which is an experiential here-and-now approach that suggests that you are more than the sum of your thoughts, emotions, and history. I have had experience working as a youth mentor during practicum and recently interned at a hospice, providing caregiver relief and companionship for patients and using life review therapy.
Outside of my studies, I spend my free time reading, birdwatching, and playing racquet sports like pickleball and table tennis. I am sincerely thankful for the opportunity to intern at Specialty Counseling and Consulting, and I am looking forward to growing alongside colleagues and clients alike!
